Today, Dev-team released Redsn0w 0.9.8b1, competent at jailbreaking the latest Apple os for mobile devices, iOS 5 (beta).
This is a tethered jailbreak which means that you will need to connect your device into a computer and run Redsn0w to have ‘jailbreak mode’ on it.
With all these improvements put into iOS5, is still worth to jailbreak your device?
I did previously jailbreak my iPhone during the past in order to obtain higher customization level for it, gain access to settings which were not available in the official iOS, tweaks that may improve my iDevice experience after all.
Many of these ‘improvements’ are already obtainable with iOS 5, still not many are missing.
In my opinion, iOS 5 is a great step forward for Apple, which appears to have learned from the jailbreak community inside the benefit of their clients. Wish a large number of companies would perform same (e.g. Sony).
A few of the features that helped Apple accomplishing this step forward are:
Advanced reminder system
System-wide Twitter integration
Photo editing tools
Reach text email
Very few of the today’s mobile systems are coming with the amount of features making iOS one of the better mobile operating system currently available.
Still, the question remains…may be the jailbreak still a necessity?
Many users will say “YES”, jailbreak is often a ‘must have’, probably because they are not aware of what the new iOS are capable of doing, some still may have favorite applications that are not available in the new iOS (e.g. BiteSMS), however, many will stay away from jailbreak to any extent further because most of the features that they jailbreaked for are now the main OS.
In the past, jailbreaking was considered illegal, voiding your device warranty.
Number of years later it all become legal so long as you are not installing / using paid applications at no cost by using the jailbreak tools.
Today, jailbreak means more than simply allowing non-signed applications to own on your device (Apple require that each application that runs on your iDevice to be signed having a certificate, this way they have a better control over their tool and the applications that runs using it), it became a cult.
We still have to wait until the final version of iOS 5 is released, but if you take a look at the beta version, iOS incorporated features that no other mobile operating system could be proud of, making iOS 5 the most effective releases that Apple come forth with.
